The FAMILY HEALTH INFORMATION CENTER was established with a generous initial donation from Raymond and Mary Donovan and their family. In addition, the MidState Medical Center Auxiliary provides an annual sustaining gift for the purchase of consumer health information resources.
The focus of the collection is to provide consumer information that non-professionals can understand. The intent is to bring resources that have been specifically selected to support the need for information on health-related issues to patients and their families.
We believe that having access to information is a vital part of the decision making process in health care and for wellness. We hope that you will use the Family Health Information Center to keep you aware of the latest developments, to seek support from an author’s inspirational words, to investigate alternatives, and to locate local, state and national health organizations as you need their services. We look forward to working with you for your health information needs.
The Family Health Information Center features these resources and if our library does not own the materials that you need, we are able to borrow them for you:
Books - They may be borrowed by all patrons registered at any Connecticut library for a three-week loan period. In addition, there is a large collection of up-to-date reference material for use within the library.
Periodicals - The library subscribes to a number of health-related magazines that can be borrowed.
Newsletters - The library has newsletters from various health-related agencies that are available for use as well as its own newsletter, Health Beat.
Pamphlets - A variety of health and social service agencies provide basic information in pamphlet form that are yours for the taking.
Computerized Information - The library has access to many databases that include articles from various magazines, journals and pamphlets. In addition, the Family Health Information Center has an Internet Workstation that provides access to a world of other information. If detailed searches are necessary, the librarian will be happy to assist you with this process.
The Family Health Information Center is open to the public during the library’s regular business hours.
The Meriden Public Library Family Health Information Center is in memory of Raymond Donovan.
